Yes, Lip Balm Is Making Your Chapped Lips Worse—Here’s Why
Winter comes with its fair share of beauty problems, and chapped lips are right up there with static-shocked hair and those itchy red dry spots you get around your nose from blowing too much. (Rather unfortunate for s selfies.) We always keep lip balm on hand—how are you supposed to wear lipstick 24/7 otherwise?—and wearing it at all times becomes nonnegotiable once the cold front rolls in. Despite the promises of the balms, glosses, and “miracle” treatments you impulse-buy all season long, what you see isn’t always what you get. If you’ve ever used an anti-acne product that made you break out, then you already know what we mean: Counterintuitively, some lip balms can make chapped lips worse by actually exacerbating dryness. What gives?
The answer lies in the ingredients. “Lip balms with humectants such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin make lips worse,” says dermatologist Leslie Baumann, MD. “These ingredients pull moisture out of the skin, especially in a dry environment, and then the water evaporates away.” Confusing, considering we regularly apply these ingredients to our face to keep it well-hydrated.
Here’s the thing: Humectant ingredients need to be offset by occlusive ingredients to work their moisturizing magic. Occlusive agents, like beeswax, shea butter, and various oils, create a physical barrier to prevent water loss. “Humectants hold on to water, and occlusives keep it from evaporating,” explains Dr. Baumann. Without occlusives, the moisture that the humectants pull out simply vanishes on the surface of the skin, leaving lips drier than they were in the first place.
That doesn’t mean you should avoid humectants in your lip balms—just look for those ingredients alongside the occlusive agents. You don’t have to opt for anything fancy.

The Best Affordable Dupes For Dior's Most Popular Mascaras
Aside from a few exceptions, I staunchly believe that there are a select few beauty categories that are absolutely worth the splurge, including fragrance, skincare serums and a solid foundation that suit your skin. With that being said, however, I also firmly believe that shelling out a pretty penny on mascara (and even most eyeliners) is frankly, unnecessary. Fans Are Convinced Adele’s New Album Is On Its Way Thanks to This YouTube Clue
We’ve been waiting five years for this! Fans are finally getting ready to say “Hello” to new music after stumbling across an Adele new album 2020 clue sitting right on the artist’s YouTube page this week. While it doesn’t appear to be an intentional hint, it’s entirely possible that this interesting find is all the proof we need that there’s a new single, or possibly an entire record, already on its way.
Head over to Adele’s YouTube page, and you’ll find this sneaky hint. Fans clocked it after seeing that the 31-year-old singer’s channel lists “13 Videos” in its upper description—yet if you take a look at the total number of videos uploaded publically, there are only 12.
“A new video was uploaded today on Adele’s official YouTube channel. The video is not publicly available. #A4,” Twitter fan account @adeledailynet wrote. When one Twitter user tried to debunk this discovery, the @adeledailynet account claimed they’d actually been checking Adele’s YouTube page religiously for hints.
“Those 13 videos have been there since like forever if I remember correctly, I think,” wrote the user, to which @adeledailynet replied, “They’re not. We’re checking everyday since October.”
As far as we can see, 2015’s “Hello” is the last video shared to the page. But if we’re going by what this Twitter fan account suggests, then it’s possible this number fiasco proves there’s already one more video queued up on Adele’s account. The only question that remains now, however, is when it will be released?

Rihanna & Drake Are Sparking Up Dating Rumors Again & Wow, Be Still My Heart
Look, true love never dies, especially if we’re talking about RiRi and Drizzy. After sources spotted the pair together this weekend, it already seems possible that Rihanna and Drake are back together following her Hassan Jameel breakup. Reports flooded in on Friday, Jan. 17, about Rihanna’s split from her longtime beau, Hassan, a billionaire Saudi businessman. The pair kept a super-secret profile as they dated for three years, but now, it looks like Rih might be ready to re-enter the spotlight with a new man. At least that’s what fans are thinking after seeing a video, below, of her spending a night with Drake.
To their credit, the pair were spotted at a charity event. A concert called the Yams Day charity show took place at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center this weekend, and Rihanna, 31, and Drake, 29, were both in attendance. A quick clip was caught of the two standing next to each other in a crowd. We can’t say they look particularly cozied up, but maybe they just had their game faces on for the set by A$AP Mob.
Rih and Drake also stopped for photos with fans throughout the night. One pair of flicks show the artists posing with the same fan, which leads one to wonder if they just happened to switch around next to her. (Or even better: Imagine Rihanna and Drake trading off to take your fan photo. We can dream!) Either way, it pretty much confirms that they were hanging around together that night. Some fans already think it means they’re dating again.

You know that saying that there are at least seven people who look exactly like you in the world? Well, it’s definitely true for Hazza over here. This Harry Styles’ look-alike Starbucks video has us equal parts confused, shocked, and thrilled. Turns out, a TikTok user found the 25-year-old singer’s absolute doppelgänger working the coffee chain’s drive-thru window, and thankfully, they recorded a clip of him to share with the world.
Sometimes these “doppelgängers” really only look sort of like the person in question. But this guy is Harry’s spitting image! You’ll need to see it to believe it yourself, but before you do, here’s what we know about Starbucks Harry. His name is actually Sean (apparently, because we’re still not convinced it isn’t Harry himself.) He wears his hair just like Harry’s signature half-up, half-down bun. He’s got dimples. Gigi Hadid’s Oversized Blazer and Leather Pants Look Is the Only Outfit That Matters to Me Right Now
Not only does Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week bring incredible runway outfits (obviously), but I get to see all my favorite—and most stylish—celebrities rock their best street style. Fashion month Fall/Winter 2020 is just getting underway, but our girl Gigi Hadid has officially arrived (and is officially already a street style icon). Seriously, all the fashion weeks for 2020 are just started, but the model is already working it on the streets and on the runway. Gigi Hadid’s Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week street style has truly started off on a high note with a seriously cool ensemble. Hadid stepped out on the streets of Paris having styled neutrals in a way only a true supermodel could.
Gigi Hadid always seems to surprise me with her street style. I can never pinpoint exactly what her “aesthetic” is, because she wears so many different types of looks. This most recent outfit from Gigi Hadid, though, is really the perfect lesson in elevating basics. Wearing a white tee, leather pants, oversized blazer and knee-high brown boots, the model took four different neutrals and managed to turn them into a gorgeous street style look. Of course, she also paired the outfit with some slim black sunnies—a signature Gigi Hadid accessory. I may not be able to predict what clothes the model wears, but I do know her typical sunglasses style.

Let us not, however, forget that Gigi Hadid never has just one incredible street style ensemble. The model was also seen in Paris leaving the Chanel Haute Couture 2020 show wearing a gorgeous shearling-collared coat paired with black pants, a black top and black suspenders. In a two-tone matching set, the model looked like the modern day equivalent of a ’70s boss—and I am here for it.
